The Beckoning Whispers

As I sit in the kitchen, the sound of the sea beckons me. From the beach house, the waters whisper, calling me to the beach. I grab my sunscreen and my towel and walk across the street and into the soft, dry sand. I sink ankle deep with each step, the gentle waves whooshingContinue reading “The Beckoning Whispers”

At a Snail’s Pace

During a recent walk, I noticed a tiny snail, its shell no bigger than a dime. It appeared motionless, but when I knelt down for a zoomed-in photo, I could see its forward progress. Ever so slowly, it traveled, a millimeter at a time, across the sidewalk. Satisfied with my photo, I continued my walk.Continue reading “At a Snail’s Pace”

Be Still

Be Still When struggling, hopelessly caught In the swirling whirlpool of life, Twisting and turning Tumbled by turbulent waters– Take a deep breath and listen! Hear  God’s   sweet   silent   voice: “Be  still  my  child, be  still.” When all around screams chaos, Jangled nerves pleading for reprieve, Pushing and pulling Myriad demands dividing– Take a deepContinue reading “Be Still”

Glimpses of His Glory

Early in the morning before the phone starts ringing and the demands of the day begin pressing all around, I love to curl up in my favorite glider rocker and just think.  Pre-dawn darkness covers everything, but a soft light gradually steals into the room.  The house is quiet, not yet fully awake.  With myContinue reading “Glimpses of His Glory”

Thank the Lord

Yesterday my husband had hip replacement surgery. Today I have so many reasons to thank the Lord. Thank you, Lord, for enabling capable men and women to perform his procedure so he doesn’t have to live the rest of his life in pain. Thank you, Lord, for giving others compassionate hearts and the ability toContinue reading “Thank the Lord”

New Growth

I love springtime!  Overnight the world changes from dull, dry, and dead to colorful, vibrant, and alive.  The trees, which stretched their bare arms heavenward all winter, now dress in a pale green blush.  Our Bradford pear tree nods its white, blooming head gently in the spring breezes.  Yesterday, the grass was brittle and brown. Continue reading “New Growth”

The Caterpillar’s Change

Picture the caterpillar.  Its belly nearly drags the earth, and its tiny legs work furiously as it inches from one plant to another.  On the plant it blends in, camouflaged by leaves.  It spends its life contentedly munching its leafy green diet.  But one day the caterpillar drastically changes.  It stops eating and spins aContinue reading “The Caterpillar’s Change”

The Rising Son

Early in the morning, in the pre-dawn gray light, I wander around the retreat center.  As I meander past the ghostlike trees, my feet crunch in the gravel path.  The wind sighing high above in the treetops provides an oasis of peace and quiet away from the noise and bustle of the city. While theContinue reading “The Rising Son”

God’s Embrace

A tickle deep in my throat prompted me to leave the sanctuary during the sermon.             I got a drink, coughed, and blew my nose where the noise wouldn’t disturb others. Standing outside the nursery, I heard several little ones crying. On an impulse, I opened the door, ready to help. As soon as IContinue reading “God’s Embrace”

Healing What Ails You

Healing What Ails You Earlier, I caught a nasty virus, the kind that plays havoc with your digestive system. Of course, we were out of town when it hit. During our granddaughter’s dance competition, we sat in the balcony watching so many beautiful dancers. While waiting for her solos, it hit hard. The closest bathroomContinue reading “Healing What Ails You”
