Is There Room at the Inn?

Is There Room at the Inn? For several weeks I’ve busily prepared for the holidays. The house is decked out in Christmas finery: the tree is lit, garlands cover the stairway and windows, and angels and nativities adorn the tabletops.  Holiday meals are cooked, and the pantry is stocked. Treats wait for children and grandchildrenContinue reading “Is There Room at the Inn?”

Christmas Decorations

I treasure this Christmas decoration for three main reasons: Here are some of the scriptures that each of these names was taken from. Vine: John 15: 1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. Light: John 8: 12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the lightContinue reading “Christmas Decorations”

Happy December

December–a time of decorating, cooking, baking, shopping, and wrapping. May this December be a time of reflection, joy, love, and spiritual growth. Anticipate the birth of the Savior of the world. Rejoice in the love He has shown for all of us. Share that love with others. This December, may we be more intentional aboutContinue reading “Happy December”

Winter in the Forest

How different the forest is in the winter!  Looking around the deciduous forest, I notice the tall, dark tree trunks with their branches reaching outward and upward.  Without their covering of green finery, the trees stand like silent skeletons, dominating the landscape.  The air is tomb-like, for many birds have flown south for the winter. Continue reading “Winter in the Forest”

A Box of Chocolates

Imagine that someone has given you a big box of chocolates!  What is the first thing you do?  Most would probably say Thank you, open the box, and graciously offer the first piece to the giver of this scrumptious gift.  Would you begrudge giving that first piece of chocolate to the person who gave youContinue reading “A Box of Chocolates”

Hear the Crying

Imagine if you will, Christmas day more than 2000 years ago in the town of Bethlehem.  Jesus is born.  Do you feel the crisp morning air?  Do you smell the animals and the hay?  Listen.  Do you hear the newborn crying?  Can you see Mary, seated on the floor of the stable, holding her tinyContinue reading “Hear the Crying”

A Woodland Sanctuary

As I walked the nature trails, I wandered off the beaten path.  Large toadstools nestled under a grove of blue spruce trees attracted my attention. Pushing aside branches, I walked fifteen feet, entering a small clearing.  The ground, carpeted with years of accumulated needles, felt soft beneath my feet.  A chorus of crickets broke theContinue reading “A Woodland Sanctuary”

God’s Embrace

A tickle deep in my throat prompted me to leave the sanctuary during the sermon.             I got a drink, coughed, and blew my nose where the noise wouldn’t disturb others. Standing outside the nursery, I heard several little ones crying. On an impulse, I opened the door, ready to help. As soon as IContinue reading “God’s Embrace”
